Watkin Jones has withdrawn plans to allow key workers and racegoers to use its new student developments in Chester.

The company is making progress with its 323-bed scheme on the site of a former bus depot in Liverpool Road, as well as its 77-bed development in Hunter Street.

The developer had asked Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWaC) if the sites could also be occupied by key workers and racegoers, because the student accommodation market is saturated.

However, the plans have now been withdrawn amid objections from locals.

Supporting the view that the market may have reached saturation, it was recently revealed that a 544-bed student development on the former Linenhall stables site was no longer happening.

Furthermore, progress on an eight-storey 376-bed scheme in Hoole Way also appears to be slow.
