Plans have been submitted that could see a new seven-storey block of student accommodation being built in Sheffield city centre.

Whirlow Capital Investment has put forward plans to build the scheme on a site in Hodgson Street.

If approved, the existing buildings on the site will be demolished to make way for new PBSA that contains 77 bedrooms. Most of these will be self-contained studios, with some two bed duplexes also provided.

It will also come equipped with a games room, working hub, bicycle store and parking for seven cars.

Documents submitted as part of the application said: "The resulting development should increase the urban scale and density of the area, and create something elegant, layered, stimulating and timeless - something that will 'sit' within the inherently diverse and eclectic mix of properties that represent the character of area."

"The development should also be a quality benchmark for future redevelopment opportunities at the southern end of city centre - a city centre renaissance - and one that will further enrich and enliven its uniquely chaotic, muddled, yet endearing street scene."

It is hoped the scheme will act as a catalyst for the regeneration of the southern end of the city centre, through the "intensification" of quality student residential accommodation.
