Hundreds of students expecting to move into new student accommodation in Exeter face finding a new home as The Depot won't be finished on time.

The eight storey, 601-bed development between Bamfylde Street and Belgrave Road was due to be complete in time for the 2019-20 academic year. However, construction delays mean the building won't be ready for September.

All those affected by the delay have been written to by The Mace Group, the developers behind the scheme, and they are working with the University of Exeter to ensure all students have alternative accommodation.

A spokesman for The Depot said: "Due to construction delays at The Depot which our contractor has been unable to fully mitigate, we will unfortunately not be able to open the building in time for the start of this academic year."

"We have written to all the affected students and we are working with the University to ensure everyone has alternative accommodation for the start of term."

"We apologise to everyone impacted by the delay and expect to have the rooms available from January."

It is hoped the scheme will be up and running by January.
