Students Unhappy Over Rent Refunds
26th Jan 2021
Plans have been submitted to transform a timber yard in Leith, Edinburgh, into a new student development.
The project would result in the site at 48-50 Iona Street being demolished to make way for new residential flats, as well as student accommodation.
However, concerns have been raised over the pricing of the residential accommodation, in addition to possible disruption caused by the construction work.
Separate plans to build further student accommodation further down Leith Walk led to a huge outcry from the Save Leith Walk group, with the plans being rejected by Edinburgh City Council.
A major concern for locals is the rise of student accommodation, with those protesting the plans arguing for more affordable 2 and 3 bedroom houses instead.
