Students in Liverpool have been informed just hours before arrival that their new block of student accommodation was not ready.

Hundreds of university students due to move into The Calico were told the building was not ready due to issues with the supply of electricity.

Students were scheduled to start entering the building on September 14th but were informed on Friday night by the accommodation provider Fresh Student Living that several more weeks were needed.

The owners attributed the delays to "unanticipated testing and commission issues that were reported late last week."

A statement from Fresh Student Living said it was disappointed with the delay, adding: "Our teams worked hard to contact all students at extremely short notice and arranged temporary accommodation with the assistance of Niveda."

"We recognised that some students will temporarily be without the fantastic facilities that Calico will be offering and some students will have been moved to rooms that are not of the same standard they paid for or better so we worked swiftly with Niveda to ensure all students receive a compensation package."

"We are keeping in touch with all students and look forward to welcoming them to Calico very soon."

The main contractor for the build is Create Construction, who have stressed they remained committed to completing the project to the highest standards as soon as practically possible.
