Plans to build a block of 28 student units in Lancaster have been granted planning permission.

The former cinema in Dalton Square is set to be demolished to make way for purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) after plans were approved by Lancaster City Council.

Approval was subject to a change in conditions related to improving the energy efficiency and adding security measures such as gates, CCTV and external lighting.

The application has been criticised by locals, with concerns raised that there is already an oversupply of student accommodation in Lancaster.
