Residents have been protesting against plans to build more student accommodation in Bath.

The scheme in question contains 186 student bedrooms and 104 flats and sits on the site of an old car showroom.

More than 50 locals recently gathered at the Old Hartwells site on Newbridge Road after hearing the news the development may go ahead.

The development has already been recommended for approval by Bath and North East Somerset Council officers, but a final decision isn't due until later this month.

Commenting on the project, Mark Roper, Lib Dem councillor for Newbridge, said: "This is the wrong place for this. The developers want to cram as many people in the space for profit. It does not fit with the council's planning policy."

"It is not what the city planners had in mind and I am confident that myself and the other local councillor Michelle O'Doherty can stop it."
