JEDS Investments has been granted planning permission to build hundreds of new beds in Southampton.

The £55m development on Royal Crescent Road will contain a total of 456 bedrooms, including 80 studios and 70 cluster flats. Consisting of 10 storeys, the scheme will come equipped with a gym, cinema and games room.

The development has been designed by architects Keith Davidson Partnership and is due to be complete by 2022.

The approved scheme represents a reduction in size compared to the original plans, with JEDS Investments initially proposing a 506-bed scheme, which was refused planning.

Commenting on the development, Eamonn Coleman, chief executive of JEDS Investments said: "We are very confident that we can let all 456 student rooms in full as the proposed development is in a fantastic location, just a short walk to Ocean Village and Solent University."
