Unite has appointed Richard Huntingford as its new chairman, who will replace Phil White when he steps down on the 31st of March 2021.

Mr Huntingford is currently the chairman of Future plc, a specialist media platform, and will join the Unite board as a non-executive director and chairman designate on 1 December, before assuming the chairman role once Phil White departs.

White was appointed chairman in 2010 and his tenure was extended following the Liberty Living acquisition to ensure continuity during the integration process.

Commenting on the appointment, White said: "I am delighted with Richard's appointment as chairman designate; his extensive track record and board experience demonstrates that he has the range of skills and experience for the role. I would like to welcome Richard to the board and I look forward to working with him over the coming months to ensure a smooth handover of duties. Unite is a great business with great people and it has been a privilege to have played just a small role in its success over the past decade."
