Student Testing Begins Across Universities

Mass testing of students to allow them to go home for Christmas is due to start across many universities in the UK.

Universities are opening testing centres where students will be checked for Covid before they travel home. The process will involve students taking two tests, three days apart and if negative, students will be able to leave university in the travel window that starts from 3 December.

However, testing is to be voluntary and will not be made available at all universities.

The idea of mass testing is to reduce the risk of spreading Covid-19 as students travel home.

If students do test positive, they will need to take another test to confirm the result, at which point they will need to stay in their accommodation and self-isolate.
