Residents in Cambridge are continuing to fight against plans to build a block of student accommodation near St Matthew's Place.

The proposed 113-bed development has been put forward by Federated Hermes, with the site due to built over the St Matthew's Centre for the Cambridge School of Visual & Performing Arts in New Street, using timber stilts to elevate the block of flats.

At the last count, there were 17 objections lodged against the plans.

The developer has defended the scheme suggesting that the unusual site required a novel approach to retain the existing building.

Some of the objections raised against the development include that is it out of keeping with the park and area. Furthermore, the site will overshadow houses and cause harm to the park and trees.

Those looking to comment on the application have until December 23 to lodge their views.
