Study Inn Investments has received planning permission to convert an office building in Leicester into new purpose-built student accommodation.

The four-storey vacant building located on the corner of Welford Road and Norton Street will be transformed with the addition of a further three floors, as well as a seven-storey extension. This will enable a total of 185 bedrooms arranged in cluster flats to be delivered, along with 82 one-bed studios.

The scheme will also come equipped with a gym, spa, yoga room, games room, social area and a reception.

The developers are anticipating that the project will create 17 full-time and part-time jobs once fully operational.

Council documents submitted as part of the planning application said of the scheme: "I consider that a number of issues have been addressed through the course of the application, such as the height of the extension, materials, cycle parking, waste collection, the internal layout with improved room sizes with better outlook for future residents that the proposal can now be viewed favourably."

"I consider that the proposal would have a minimal effect upon the amenities currently enjoyed by the nearby residents."

The application has now been approved, subject to conditions.
