£40m Manchester PBSA Tower Approved

Plans are still on the table to build an additional 850 purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) beds in Durham.
If the project comes to fruition, the scheme would be the largest private PBSA residence ever built in Durham.
Split across eleven buildings, the application was put forward by The Banks Group, the same company behind the South and John Snow colleges.
The applicant originally received planning permission to build the development in 2018 but failed to find a partner to help bring the project forward. Subsequently, a new application was put forward last year to provide time to progress the development.
Whilst locals have objected to the scheme, Durham University supported the original application, suggesting there is demand for a greater choice of good quality accommodation.
According to The Banks Group, PBSA has been central to Mount Oswald's development, with the need being identified in the Durham Local Plan and Durham University's long-term development strategy.
