The contract for the design and construction of a new student accommodation block in Glasgow has been granted to GRAHAM.

Behind the appointment is Edinburgh-based developer Glencairn Properties, who have also onboarded architects 56three and consultant engineers Will Rudd Davidson onto the project.

Located in Edinburgh's Abeyhill area, the new purpose-built student accommodation scheme will be constructed on Montrose Terrace.

Planning permission for the scheme was granted by the City of Edinburgh Council in June 2020 and completion is expected by the end of summer 2023.

The development aims to help the continued regeneration of the area, whilst also meeting the growing need for student accommodation.

Montrose Terrace will provide the city with an additional 149 student beds comprised of a mix of studios and clusters. Other amenities at the site include a gym, common rooms, cycle storage and laundry facilities.

The construction of the scheme will create approximately 12 jobs. Long-term an additional 10 jobs will be created for the maintenance and security of the site.

Gary Holmes, the Regional Managing Director at GRAHAM's Building division commented: "Glencairn Properties has a track record of delivering high-quality homes and we are very pleased to work with their team to deliver the Montrose Terrace scheme as they expand their purpose-built student accommodation portfolio."

"GRAHAM's expertise across the student accommodation sector will bring a wealth of knowledge to the build. Edinburgh's world-renowned universities and colleges drive a significant volume of investment within the city, and it is important that there is the correct level of accommodation to match student intake which Montrose Terrace will help to achieve."

Managing Director of Glencairn Properties Daryl Teague stated: "Edinburgh is a diverse city with a large student population. Our investment into this state-of-the-art accommodation matches the quality of education available."

"We are thrilled to get underway to deliver prime student accommodation in the heart of the city, transforming a currently derelict site into a space that is cleverly designed for modern-day lifestyle habits. The community support from the outset has been very encouraging and we are confident that it will help to boost the economy through tenancies and job creation."
