A student accommodation development in Leeds, which is set to deliver over 400 studio flats, has been awarded planning permission.

The application was put forward to Leeds City Council by PPG Leeds Ltd.

The proposal will see the demolition of King House on Regent Street, making way for a new 11-storey building containing 402 new studios.

The internal area of the new building will have an approximate internal area of 148,000 sq ft and provide a number of amenity spaces, including shared study areas, meeting rooms, a gym, a yoga studio, a cinema and laundry facilities.

A planning officer's report accompanying the decision stated: "The site is within the city centre and currently represents an inefficient use of land.

"The proposal offers a significant opportunity to regenerate a key site, deliver purpose-built student housing and contribute to the overall regeneration and place-making to this area of the city centre."
