Student Houses in Aberdeen

Aberdeen is the 3rd largest city in Scotland with a population of around 200,000. It is home to the University of Aberdeen and Robert Gordon University, as well as Aberdeen College.

University of Aberdeen

The University of Aberdeen was founded in 1495 making it one of the oldest universities in the UK and one of the oldest universities in the world. Approximately 13,500 students study there each year and there are over 650 undergraduate degree courses on offer to undergraduates. The two most famous colleges at the university are King's and Marischal College which have had a long (and occasionally violent) history of rivalry when the latter was initially founded as a separate university. Ever since their merger in 1641 one though the two institutions have become the jewels in the crown of the university.

Robert Gordon University

Ever since becoming a university in 1992, Robert Gordon has offered an alternative to its more ancient counterpart, and in 2013 the Times Good University Guide proclaimed it the best modern university in Scotland. The university also enjoys one of the highest graduate employment rates for any university in the UK. A large contributing factor to this is the institution's primary focus on vocational courses. Its sole campus is located on the banks of the River Dee, its second campus in the city centre having closed in 2013.

King Street

King Street runs between the city centre and the main campus of the University of Aberdeen, and as such it is hugely popular among students.

Old Aberdeen

After being founded as a separate burgh to the city of Aberdeen, Old Aberdeen used to be isolated from the city itself until the 1960's when urban sprawl from the city reached the town. King's College was built in the area in the 15th century and as such the area has long been associated with the university. For students studying on campus in Old Aberdeen it is obviously a great area to live, although student accommodation is quite hard to come by in old Aberdeen itself, there are plenty of options in the area immediately surrounding it.

Rosemount

Situated slightly west of the city centre, Rosemount is a popular area among students due to both its location and large amount of Victorian terraced student houses.
