Historic Mill in Bradford to be Replaced by Student Accommodation
Ever since the unused Thompson Mills were devastated by a fire in 2011, the site in Bradford has lain empty, however the site is now the focus of student accommodation plans.
Developer Hill and Standard are now promoting an 858-bed student block comprised of eight floors, with shops, roof terrace and a gym. Planning was initially granted for student accommodation on the site in 2003 but as the site changed hands in subsequent years, construction never quite got started. Hill and Standard however think that the area is "primed for massive regeneration".
Hoardings are already up around the site, and mock-ups of the final design are now available on the company's website. A timetable for the development however has yet to be revealed.
City councillor Nazam Azam has said of the potential development, "Any development so close to the city centre is great news, it all forms part of the regeneration of the city. I just hope the developers can start as soon as possible. It seems like the whole scheme has been on/off for a while so it will be great to see it go ahead."
