Plans to develop a four-storey student accommodation block in the centre of Gillingham are set to be approved.
The development includes 68 student rooms, eight common rooms and associated facilities for students studying at the University of Kent.
The location being sought out for the development is at the rear of 124 to 130 Jeffrey Street, which is currently being used as a car park.
It's anticipated that the proposed use of building will not generate excessive traffic as it might with other uses and it will help to regenerate the commercial vitality of local businesses in the area.
The plans also include the use of appropriate materials that would help ensure that the building is in keeping with the town centre site.
The only objections lodged against the application was that there was already an existing shortage of parking spaces in the area and that there was a more pressing need for housing for young families.
Despite the objections Medway Council officers have recommended giving the scheme the green light subject to a few conditions.
These conditions include it being a car free development, which would prevent any tenants from obtaining parking permits as well as a £15,203 contribution towards "Designated Habitats Mitigation".
