Headingly in Leeds has retained the unwanted crown of the student noise capital of the city for the second year running.

Figures provided by Leeds City Council's noise team indicated that 458 complaints were linked to student housing in Hyde Park, Woodhouse, Headingley and Burley between September 2015 and May 2016.

Nearly half of those complaints originated from properties located in Headingley. Homes in Hydpe Park and Woodhouse accounted for 38% of the complains whilst the remaining were split between the Burley area of Kirkstall ward.

Peak times for noise complaints unsurprisingly coincided with freshers' week in September and May when students are celebrating their final exams of the year.

Neighbourhood teams have set a goal of reducing the number of noisy parties in student areas and aim to take action whenever one is reported. Officers regularly join the council's out of hours' noise nuisance team to patrol residential areas.

In some cases, this can lead to the seizing of electrical equipment if noise abatement notices are breached.
