Student Accommodation Proposed for Fort William

A proposal has been put forward to build a student accommodation block on the site of a former primary school in Lochaber. The development, which consists of 40 units, is being proposed in an attempt to turn Fort William into a university-type town.
Cityheart Ltd of Chester, is looking to gain approval for the development, which would face onto Fassifern Road and come with car parking for seven vehicles.
If plans are approved it's hoped that students attending West Higherland College UHI will use the facilities.
Local councillor Bren Gormley has welcomed the proposal stating that there has been an increase in the number of full-time students at West Highland College, which have previously found it difficult to find suitable student housing.
The site would be close to the centre of town as well as the college, making it an ideal location for students.
If the proposed development is accepted, then it's hoped that the block will be open to students as of August 2017.
This latest development comes as a £2.2 million 40-bed scheme of three storey flats in Camanachd Crescent at An Aird in Fort William, was recently completed. Students will be able to move into the flats as of next month.
