Reports have surfaced that the companies behind two significant blocks of student accommodation in Huddersfield have gone bust.
Administrators have reportedly been called in to review the assets of Mederco Block A Limited and Mederco (Huddersfield) limited, which include the Kingfisher House and Kingfisher Court blocks in Manchester Road.
Both companies are owned by former Bury FC chairman Stewart Day, with the announcement coming on the same day that the League Two team was issued with a High Court winding-up petition.
The news comes a year after it was uncovered that Kingfisher Court was issued a warning by Kirklees Council about allegedly advertising the student accommodation as hotel rooms.
The council warned the firm it would end up with a tax bill as by law the rooms could only be rented to students.
Administrators from Leeds based RSM are reviewing all aspects of the business.
Jamie Miller, partner and joint administrator: said: "It's at an early stage, and we are currently in the process of reviewing the financial position of the businesses and working with our advisors to determine the optimal sales strategy to maximise returns for creditors."
"We are also looking to identify all creditors of the companies and would ask any parties with an interest to get in touch with RSM's Leeds office as soon as possible."
"We understand that a significant number of third parties have provided monies seeking to purchase individual units in the properties and encourage those parties to provide the full particulars of their claims to us."
