Plans to build student accommodation, new homes, shops, restaurants and a cinema in Egham have been granted planning permission by Runnymede Borough Council.

The development will be managed by Places for People, in partnership with the council as part of the wider Runnymede Regeneration Programme.

Known as Egham Gateway West, the development will include 28 affordable for rent and 6 shared ownership homes, as well as 23 properties for sale and 44 which will for open market rent. The project will also include a purpose-built block of student accommodation with 100 bedrooms.

Rick Lawrence, partnerships director at Places for People said: "We are delighted to have secured planning permission on behalf of the Council for this development which will help transform Egham and bring new homes, amenities and green spaces to the local community."

"We have worked hard since our public consultation last year to incorporate the views of local people to deliver a scheme which will truly benefit everyone. The revitalisation of Egham Gateway West is an exciting part of the wider Runnymede Regeneration Programme - a partnership between Places for People, Runnymede Borough Council and the community; together we can now deliver something that everyone can be proud of."

Site clearance works will start later this year, with the main building works due for completion in late summer 2021.
