Derby Pub to Become Student Flats

Plans to transform a former pub in Derby into student accommodation have been granted planning permission.

Earlier this year plans were submitted with the council to convert The Dunkirk Tavern, on the corner of King Alfred Street and Bakewell Street, into apartments.

The applicant, J Properties, will develop the site into two flats of multiple occupation, along with three self-contained apartments. A first-floor extension will also be added.

Commenting on the application, city council planners said: "Overall it is felt that the proposed conversion of the pub to residential use and extensions to the building are acceptable by way of size, form, character and design."

"Highway safety and residential amenity would not be unreasonably affected."

"In dealing with this application the city council has worked with the applicant / agent in a positive and proactive manner and, while no amendments to the scheme were necessary in this case, it has been determined in a positive fashion."
