Plans have been put forward to convert an Aberdeen city centre hotel into purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA).

The application has been submitted by Balfe Ltd, with the firm hoping to change the use of the Travelodge on Justice Mill Lane.

The hotel was built back in 2010 to meet the growing demand for hotel accommodation, however, guest numbers fell dramatically in the wake of the oil and gas downturn and the Covid-19 pandemic.

With the lease on the hotel ending soon, a new occupier saw sought to prevent the building from becoming vacant.

According to documents submitted as part of the application, the existing hotel could be converted into 130 studio apartments, each fitted with an en-suite bathroom, kitchenette and dining area.

The building is also designed to come equipped with a student lounge, cinema room, gym, and private dining area. A roof terrace will also be available to access from the fifth floor.

If the plans are approved, it is hoped the building will be delivered in time for the 2022-23 academic year.
