Abode Student Buys Hanley Police Station for £1.25m

In a deal worth £1.25m, Abode Student has purchased Hanley Police Station in Staffordshire, with the aim of converting the building into purpose-built student accommodation.

The site, located on Bethesda Street, had been on the market for a number of years prior to the sale.

Hanley Police Station was closed in December 2017, with police staff relocating to the nearby Fire Station and Smithfield Complex. It was estimated to sell for at least £900,000.

Ben Adams, Staffordshire's Police, Fire and Rescue and Crime Commissioner, commented: "In these increasingly challenging times, it makes good financial sense for our police and fire and rescue services to share buildings - especially when they are located just a short walk away from each other, as they were in Hanley. Using public money efficiently is a priority for me. These savings mean we can keep investing in our front-line emergency services while keeping council tax low."

An application for planning permission is yet to be applied for by UK based Abode Student.
