A new 388-bed student accommodation scheme in Lancaster is set to go before the city council for approval next week.

If approved, the accommodation would take the place of a closed-down carpet shop and car wash located between Bulk Road and Parliament street.

The two-block scheme has been recommended for approval by Lancaster City Council after a number of changes were made to the application. The construction would span six storeys and eight storeys in height.

A local heritage group, Lancaster Civic Vision, are amongst those opposing the scheme. They have commented the construction will look "Dark and oppressive".

The construction site is located opposite the Caton Court student village, which was built in 2018.

PPG Lancaster is the group behind the application.

Included within the plans are a games room, gym, laundry room, cinema, gaming room, yoga studio and private study spaces.

The new application saw a reduction 53 studios from the scheme and changes to the design to reduce the "massing effects" of the buildings.

Following changes to the plans objections from County Highways and the Environment Agency have been withdrawn.
