A former care home on Forest Road in Loughborough is set to become student housing after Charnwood Borough Council granted planning approval.

Once home to 17 elderly residents, the building will now comprise 19 student beds.

A statement from one of the planning officers said: "Although the loss of the care home is regrettable, market forces show less demand for this type of housing in Loughborough. The provision of student halls of residence in close proximity to the colleges is supported in principle."

Planning documents from agents The Planning Station commented that an onsite warden would manage the student accommodation, also adding: "The property's location is entirely suitable for managed student halls of residence."

A number of conditions were included in the approval, such as the need for a 24-hour warden, arrangements for recording noise complaints and anti-social behaviour, and details regarding student arrivals and departures at the start and end of each tenancy.
