The former Madras College buildings and grounds in St Andrews are set to be converted into a large-scale student accommodation block, as per the approval granted by Fife Council.

The development will feature 209 student bedrooms, a cafe, a convenience store, and a deli, and is expected to address the shortage of suitable housing for students in the university town.

The council put the Kilrymont site up for sale in 2020, outlining in the development brief the potential for student accommodation at the location.

Scotsman Developments Ltd, the developers behind the project, believe that the proposed development will go a long way in meeting the increasing demand for student housing in St Andrews.

During the construction phase, the developers are committed to preserving the building's historical features to the greatest extent possible. Council officers are optimistic that the primary historical characteristics of the building will be safeguarded, ensuring the building's long-term viability.

The primary focus of the 7,466 sqm B-listed building will be student accommodation.
