The Times: Student accommodation bookings down on last year

StuRents' data shows that just 36% of student accommodation beds were reserved by the end of March 2025 — down from 46.3% last year and well below the 2023 peak of 51.5%.
The slowdown is affecting nearly all major university cities, including Sheffield, Nottingham and Coventry, which have seen an influx of new supply aimed at a more affluent market that hasn’t fully materialised.
Richard Ward, Head of Research at StuRents, notes:
“We’re seeing leasing velocity slow in markets where new stock has been delivered but student demand hasn’t kept pace.”
This trend could impact investor confidence, particularly in areas where oversupply is now a concern.
