The University of Northampton is now £52.5 million lighter after signing off on a student halls construction deal with Kier Property.

The accommodation will be built on the university's Waterside Campus and will include blocks of five-storey flats and four storey town-houses, with sets of landscaped courtyards around each.

The design will also reportedly be sympathetic to the existing Graded buildings on the site as well as the area's industrial heritage. Due to the buildings being on campus the students that move in (hopefully in September 2018) will have access to an on-site convenience store, bank, chaplaincy and health centre. The site will also include a small teaching hotel. The site is scheduled to be complete, ready for finishing work, in January 2018.

The £52.5 million price tag pales somewhat into insignificance relative to the cost of the campus as a whole which is now running well over £300 million.
