Demolition work is due to start to clear the site for a new £22m block of student accommodation in Bristol's Redcliffe Quarter.

Engineering consultant WSP has bought forward plans to build a nine-storey block of student accommodation between St Thomas's Street and Mitchell Lanes.

Under the plans the site will be built using a flat slab reinforced concrete construction, which would allow the building to be adapted in the future for different uses if required.

WSP's Future Ready programme is intended to ensure all of its projects can be retained for future use.

The new building will consist of 357 student bedrooms, with the ground floor encompassing a commercial unit and student hub.

Peter Bone, Technical Director at WSP and project manager said: "We are delighted to have been appointed by F3 Group to provide civil and structural together with mechanical and electrical engineering design services for this exciting and challenging project in the heart of Bristol."
