Despite fears that plans for two student flat blocks are too big and awkwardly shaped, approval has been granted by a skeleton planning committee.

The two blocks will hold 91 studio flats over five storeys off Hollingdean Road, Brighton.

There are plans to demolish three neighbouring houses to allow enough room for the new development.

The developers planning consultant stated: "This is high-quality student housing which helps to address the significant shortage of student accommodation in Brighton"

"There is huge pressure on family homes. This student built accommodation is taking the pressure off, and this was acknowledged by the executive director for housing at the Audit and Standards Committee."
