Alumno has been granted planning permission to begin work on a new purpose-built student accommodation project in the Falmer district of Brighton and Hove.

The four-storey development is being built in association with the British and Irish Modern Music Institute (BIMM), Europe's largest provider of music education.

The accommodation will be located close to BIMM's Brighton campus and adjacent to Falmer train station.

Commenting on the project, Alumno's managing director, David Campbell, said: "We are delighted to announce the beginning of the construction process on our first student residence in Brighton and are excited to be working with the BIMM on the project via a nomination agreement."

Dubbed Falmer Cottages, the residence will be able to accommodate 71 students across 55 ensuites and 16 studios. There will be a large communal area on the ground floor, along with laundry facilities.

The development is due to complete in time for the 2021-22 academic year.
