Plans to redevelop a site in Portsmouth into a seven-storey, part 21-storey and part 28-storey tower block have been put forward.

The development will involve knocking down a row of shops to create 589 beds. The project represents a slightly amended version of the original plan, with Fusion Students initially seeking to build 591 units.

According to Fusion Students, there is demand for purpose-built student accommodation, which will continue to grow before the development is built in 2024.

Those objecting to the scheme argue that there are empty buildings that could be converted and used for student housing in the city and that the more pressing need is affordable housing for single people.
