Students and Staff at University College Dublin (UCD) are looking to protest next week, taking aim at the high cost of student accommodation in the city, amongst other issues.

The UCD Students' Union, which announced the Valentine's-themed protest, demands that "urgent action" be taken on a number of "core" issues faced by students in Dublin.

The UCD Union has also gained the support of the trade unions that represent staff on campus in UCD including Siptu, IFUT and Unite.

A recent survey conducted of nearly 1,000 students has found that most students are paying over 750 Euros a month or more in rent, with 43% claiming they are unhappy with their current living arrangement.

Students' Union president Ruairi Power has said: "As campus life hopefully starts to move beyond the pandemic, this is a chance to set a vision for the kind of relationship we want to have with UCD now and for the students of the future."

"We will be calling upon management to reciprocate the love that students and staff feel for their university, by setting out plans to address concerns that have consistently been raised over the last number of years."
