As many as 646 new student beds could be coming to Leicester, as plans are submitted for a new student accommodation development.

Developers Corvette Capital and Crown Student living are behind the plans, which would see the demolition of a knitwear warehouse to pave way for the PBSA block. The current occupants, Gill International, have been operating in Leicester for over 40 years.

The intended site is located on Little Holme Street, off Braunstone Gate. The site is within walking distance of both the University of Leicester and De Montfort University.

Planning documents show the main accommodation building could span eleven storeys, with an additional seven-storey building also located on the site.

Current plans detail 333 studio rooms, alongside a mix of cluster flats ranging from five to eleven bedrooms in size.

Also featured within the plans are outdoor areas for students, a gym and communal spaces on the ground floor.

Concerns had previously been raised from older versions of the plans, which would have seen the accommodation reach thirteen storeys in height at its tallest point. Planning officers commented that this may dominate views across the city.
