McLaren, a developer specialising in residential and student accommodation, has successfully obtained planning permission for a new purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) development featuring 170 beds. This project aims to offer crucial studio accommodation for students enrolled in local and nearby universities.

Situated on Hinton Road in close proximity to Bournemouth University, the town centre, and the famous local beaches of Bournemouth, McLaren has revealed an updated image of the project. This comes after receiving planning permission from Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole Council (BCP), as well as completing the site acquisition process.

Crafted by WGP Architects, the upcoming eight-story PBSA development showcases an Art Deco style facade, drawing inspiration from the architectural heritage of the area. McLaren is committed to attaining a BREEAM Excellent rating, emphasising well-being in the design of the development. Construction is anticipated to commence in the summer of 2024.

James Creevy, Development Director at McLaren said "Our Hinton Road scheme is a fantastic addition to the town centre of Bournemouth. The city has a thriving student community, and we are really pleased to work with BCP to bring forward much-need high quality student accommodation for those studying at Bournemouth's world-class universities."

Facilities include a ground floor gym and an elegant student lounge, complemented by an open courtyard that forms a secluded fern garden. The structure will boast a rooftop lounge and a spacious south-facing terrace, offering panoramic views of Bournemouth beach, Sandbanks, and the Dorset peninsula.

In terms of sustainability, the building will be zero-gas, relying on air source heat pumps and photovoltaic panels for power. The project will also enhance biodiversity on the site, promoting improved ecology.

Occupying the space of former garage workshops, this high-quality new scheme is poised to positively contribute to the broader town centre's future development.
