Liverpool is a great place to live with lots of unique and interesting neighbourhoods to choose from. With so many options, pcking the perfect student area in Liverpool can be a challenge, especially if you don't know the city well. 


To help you decide where to live, we're unpacking the top six student areas in Liverpool


Edge Hill

Edge Hill is the ideal place to live if you're studying at the University of Liverpool and want to walk to lectures. Edge Hill's convenient location, just a ten-minute walk away from many of the University of Liverpool buildings, makes it one of the most popular student areas in Liverpool


Despite being a small area, Edge Hill is packed with everything you could need, including supermarkets and convenience stores where you can pick up your essentials, a local pub where you can grab a drink with friends in the evening, and even its own train station. 


Georgian Quarter 

Best known for its impressive 18th-century architecture and the two cathedrals it is home to, the Georgian Quarter is certainly one of the most beautiful student areas in Liverpool. The neighbourhood is particularly popular with drama students as the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts is within walking distance. The Georgian Quarter is packed with culture, with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and the Unity Theatre in the area. You can also enjoy the many restaurants, bars, cafes, and pubs in the area. With so much to enjoy and explore, you'll rarely be bored.  


Kensington

Kensington is popular with students at both Liverpool John Moores University and the University of Liverpool as it is just a short walk away from both city centre campuses. Kensington is an ideal neighbourhood for the sporty student, with Jubilee Sports Bank located close by, offering a wide range of sports facilities. Head there to try your hand at netball, football, volleyball, badminton and many more. Phythian Park is also a great place for a relaxed kick-about with friends and a brilliant hangout spot in the summer months. 


Liverpool city centre 

When you live in Liverpool city centre, you'll simply never be short of things to do. Packed with restaurants, pubs, bars, clubs, and shops, the city centre is one of the busiest and buzziest student areas in Liverpool. Music lovers can visit the Cavern Club, where iconic acts like the Beatles and Arctic Monkeys have played over the past 50 years. Or, you can explore the exhibitions at The Blue Coat art gallery, FACT, or the Liverpool Beatles Exhibition. 


With a central location and convenient transport links, including four train stations within walking distance, its also extremely easy to get around the wider city or visit home for the weekend. 


Smithdown Road 

Spanning 1.7 miles, Smithdown Road is a well-known and popular Liverpool student area. There are lots of places to go to grab a quick bite, have a drink with friends, or enjoy a delicious meal. You can also head to Kelly's Dispensary to get stuck into the various events taking place there, including live music nights, open mic nights, and pub quiz nights. Every May Bank Holiday weekend, the area also comes alive as Smithdown Road Festival takes to the streets with live music and entertainment.


Wavertree 

Despite being located slightly further out from the city centre than some other student areas in Liverpool, Wavertree is still a great place to live with lots of different things to enjoy. Wavertree is home to Wavertree Cricket Club and Wavertree Sports Park, making it perfect for students who love to stay active. You can also explore Wavertree Botanic Gardens and soak in the beautiful scenery if you want a relaxing break from city life. Wavertree Retail Park is close by and is the perfect place to go for a shopping spree, with a vast array of high street stores to browse.
