Many post-graduate students choose to live in student accommodation when they study. However, for some, preferences have changed since their undergraduate years. You might be looking for a new living experience, have a different budget, or be moving to a brand new area.

To help post-grads in Sheffield looking for somewhere to live while they study, we’re breaking down some of the best post-graduate accommodation options in the city.

Are the same accommodation options available for pre- and post-graduation?

As a post-graduate, you can live in the same student accommodation as you did as an undergraduate. You’re still a student, so you’re still able to live in both university-owned and private student housing.

What options do StuRents provide in Sheffield?

Choosing where to live as a post-grad really depends on your own needs and preferences. You will have already had the experience of living in student accommodation as an undergrad, which is a major advantage. You already know what it’s like to rent as a student, as well as what you like and don’t like. You might want to replicate the experience you had as an undergrad, or you might prefer to live somewhere quieter and really focus on your studies.

No matter your preferences, StuRents has student accommodation in Sheffield to suit you. Let’s take a look at the sort of housing you could consider as a post-grad.

Student houses

These are also known as ‘houses in multiple occupation’ (HMOs). When you live in an HMO, you’ll share a single property with flatmates and split the rent between you. This makes shared housing a more affordable option. A shared house is also great if you like living with other people and being social. You could move in with an existing group of friends, or live with strangers and use it as a way to make friends in a new city!

Example: 7 bed student house to rent

Rent: £119pppw

Deposit: £99pp

Bills included: Water, electricity, gas, internet, contents insurance

This house with superfast broadband is tucked away on Meadow Drive. It has seven double beds, each with dedicated study areas. You’ll also have a kitchen, equipped with everything you need, plus a comfortable lounge. You won’t be far from Sheffield’s City Centre either.

Student flats

A student flat can be shared, or you may live in a studio by yourself. Depending on the type of flat you choose, you could have your own private bathroom and kitchen, or you could share these with flatmates, which is usually a cheaper option.

Example: 1 bed second-floor student flat to rent

Rent: £180pppw

Deposit: £150pp

Bills included: Water, electricity, gas, internet, contents insurance

This apartment is ideal for one person or a couple. It has a bathroom and bedroom with a double bed. There’s a kitchen-lounge area included too so you’ll have lots of privacy. Perfect for if you need to focus on your post-grad studies without distractions!

Student shared accommodation

Some student halls are owned by universities, and others are privately owned. University halls tend to be more popular with first-year students. Although post-grad students can move back into halls, in general, most choose not to.

However, students in all years do choose to live in private halls. When you live in privately owned halls, you’ll usually have access to facilities in the building like fitness studios, study areas, cafes and social spaces. This can save you money on separate memberships and offer you an opportunity to meet people as a post-grad.

Example: 4 Bed En-suite 4 bed student flat to rent

Rent: £135pppw

Deposit: £100pp

Bills included: Water, electricity, gas, internet, contents insurance

Living here means you’ll have your own bedroom with an en-suite. Your accommodation will also come with a shared social space and kitchen where you can catch up with others. There’s a range of incredible on-site facilities here. This includes the gym, games room, common room and outdoor area.
