Plans have been submitted by Fusion Students, one of the UK's leading student housing developers, for the construction of a large PBSA property on the site of a former Marks & Spencer's in Glasgow's city centre.

The £76m proposal would see the vacant Sauchiehall Street shop transformed into student accommodation which would be able to house 634 residents.

The Marks & Spencer's located on the site was open for 87 years before its closure in April 2022.

As well as accommodation the plans also include commercial units, including the provision of a new retailer at street level and an arcade to link between Sauchiehall Street and Renfrew Street.

The accommodation would also boast facilities such as a rooftop terrace and garden. The plans state that the 1930s art decade façade will be rejuvenated and preserved.

The planning application submission follows three public consultation events held between November 2022 - March 2023.

"At its core, the plans will help to address the pressing shortfall of student accommodation, creating a vibrant and inclusive community that will truly enhance the student living experience in Glasgow.
