LaSalle Investment Management and Trilogy Real Estate have successfully obtained planning consent for the second phase of Republic, an innovation campus located at London's East India Dock. This expansion, totalling 940,000 sq ft, will substantially increase the overall accommodation space at Republic, reaching a significant 1.28 million sq ft.

The planning application had initially been denied by Tower Hamlets Council's planning committee in October 2022, despite recommendations from their own planning officers. However, a recent decision by a planning inspector highlighted the project's quality design and positive impact on the area's character and appearance.

Robert Wolstenholme, founder and CEO of Trilogy Real Estate, stated, "Over the past eight years, Trilogy has developed an education and innovation campus at Republic, creating a sustainable development with a strong community connection."

Wolstenholme explained, "Our collaboration with universities and education providers has resulted in a space that blends training, education, and workspace, contributing to the future economy of East London. The next phase of Republic will further enhance the campus's offerings, accommodating students and residents and reinforcing its commitment to serving the diverse needs of colleges, universities, and the local community."

Additionally, the expansion includes an increase in data centre capacity to support the growing demand for these facilities, ensuring essential infrastructure for future job opportunities.

Tim Frost, fund manager at LaSalle Investment Management, added, "Securing this planning consent provides an opportunity to transform Republic into a dynamic hub for existing occupants and the local community. The combination of education, residential living, and a data centre will offer a flexible environment for the existing campus while supporting local businesses and educational opportunities."

Frost concluded, "We welcome the decision to support this project, which has the potential to redefine the local landscape in Tower Hamlets."

This development marks a significant milestone in the evolution of Republic and its contributions to the East India Dock area. Stay tuned for further updates on this project.
