University of Manchester
Ranked in the world top-50 and routinely in top-10 UK universities, the University of Manchester is both popular and prestigious. The main campus is situated just south of Manchester city centre, providing students with easy access straight to the heart of the city. With over 400 degree programs on offer and having the UK's largest student union, this red-brick institution has something for everyone. With as many as 36,000 students from all over the world there is also a diverse student population. Prospective students will be pleased to hear that Manchester graduates are in significant demand with 91% heading straight into employment.
Manchester Metropolitan University
Manchester Metropolitan divides into two campuses- one located in the city centre, and the other located in Cheshire. The university prides itself on its vocational emphasis with more than 1,000 courses and qualifications available to students. Furthermore, it is an international leader in clothing design and technology.
University of Salford
The Salford Technical Institute was founded in 1896 to help meet the educational demands of the rapidly growing city. In 1967 it was renamed as The University of Salford and merged with University College Salford in 1996. The university is just 1.5 miles from the city centre and is set among parkland near the River Irwell.
Fallowfield
Fallowfield is a large and active student area on the doorstep of the University of Manchester Fallowfield Campus. Along with a large amount of accommodation spanning both halls and houses, the area is also great for sports and nightlife.
Whilst the area is quite a walk from the centre of the city and other university campuses, it is extremely well connected by public transport.
Rusholme
About 2-miles south of the city centre, Rusholme is just north of Fallowfield and a very popular area among students. There are several student halls in the area but also a lot of very affordable terraced houses which represent some of the best value accommodation the inner city has to offer.
Salford
Salford is a large borough of the city of Manchester that is situated north of the city centre. It is home to the University of Salford and as such is extremely well connected to the rest of Manchester by both university shuttle buses and public transport in general. It is also connected by train and the Manchester Metrolink.
Victoria Park
Perfect for both Manchester students studying on central campuses and student studying on the University of Manchester Fallowfield campus, Victoria Park is a conservation area with a lot of charm. Near to the areas of Rusholme and Longsight it is also part of the densely populated student belt spanning the south of Manchester.
