THE AREA The Arboretum, located just north of Nottingham city centre, is one of the most popular student areas in the city. Its close proximity to Nottingham Trent University (NTU), affordable living options, and vibrant social scene make it an ideal location for students looking for a balance of convenience and a lively atmosphere.
Proximity to Universities
The Arboretum is particularly attractive to students studying at Nottingham Trent University, as the NTU City Campus is just a 5-10 minute walk away. For students at The University of Nottingham, it's also a viable option, with direct bus and tram links making it easy to reach the University Park Campus in around 20-30 minutes. This central location means students can easily access their lectures, libraries, and campus facilities while enjoying life in one of Nottingham's most sought-after student areas.
Affordable Student Housing
The Arboretum offers a variety of housing options tailored to students, including shared houses and flats. Rent prices are generally more affordable compared to the city centre, making it an appealing option for students looking for budget-friendly accommodation. The area has a wide selection of student properties, with many offering good-sized rooms, shared living spaces, and outdoor areas, ideal for those wanting to live with friends or other students.
Excellent Public Transport Links
The Arboretum area is well-served by Nottingham's reliable public transport network. Several bus routes pass through the area, offering quick connections to The University of Nottingham and other parts of the city. The NET tram network also has nearby stops, allowing for easy travel across Nottingham, including to the universities and city centre. For students who prefer cycling, the area is bike-friendly, and walking into the city centre is easy.
Lively Social Scene
As a student-heavy area, the Arboretum has a vibrant social scene with plenty of student-friendly pubs, bars, and cafes. Nearby areas such as Canning Circus and Derby Road offer a range of pubs like The Sir John Borlase Warren and The Hand and Heart, which are popular student hangouts. You're also within walking distance of Nottingham's city centre, where you'll find an even wider selection of nightlife, restaurants, and entertainment options.
Parks and Green Spaces
One of the Arboretum's main attractions is the beautiful Nottingham Arboretum Park, which is right on your doorstep. This large, historic park is perfect for outdoor study sessions, picnics, or just relaxing with friends. It's also home to various cultural events and festivals throughout the year, giving students the chance to enjoy music, arts, and social activities in a picturesque setting. The park's tranquil environment provides a peaceful escape from the busier areas of the city.
Shops and Amenities
Living in the Arboretum means you're never far from essential amenities. The nearby Hyson Green area offers a range of supermarkets, including ASDA, as well as local shops, cafes, and restaurants. There are also smaller convenience stores and takeaways scattered throughout the Arboretum, ensuring students have easy access to everyday necessities without having to venture far.
Cultural and Academic Benefits
The Arboretum's location provides easy access to many of Nottingham's cultural hotspots. Students can quickly reach Nottingham Playhouse, The Royal Concert Hall, and various museums, as well as libraries and study spaces in the city centre. Being so close to both the university campuses and the city's cultural attractions allows students to immerse themselves fully in both their academic and social lives.
