University of Leicester

The University of Leicester has been making many headlines recently - the only university to have won a Times Higher Education award in seven consecutive years, it is also famous for the invention of genetic fingerprinting and the discovery of the remains of King Richard III. It is also known for its distinctive twentieth century architecture, in particular the Engineering Building, the Attenborough Tower and the Charles Wilson building.

Highfields

Highfields is in walking distance of the city centre and conveniently placed for students at both of the main universities in the city. Owing to its inner city location, most of the accommodation in the city is in the form of terraced houses, many of them subdivided into flats. In the 1970s a large amount of housing estate accommodation was also built on the site of cleared slum housing in the area.

Stoneygate

A quiet, upmarket area of Leicester, Stoneygate is also extremely well located for students at the University of Leicester. It's also right next to the city centre and has great shopping facilities as well as a large public swimming pool. Understandably student accommodation in the area is on the pricey side, but as far as quality and location goes Stoneygate is hard to beat.

Westcotes

Known as the 'West End' of Leciester, Westcotes packs a lot into a relatively small area. The nightlife in the area, as well as its proximity to both universities in the city make Westcotes a popular choice among students. Unlike other inner city areas in Leicester, Westcotes is largely spacious and well planned due to it being developed much later than the other land in the centre of the city. Its location also makes it a great option for students at De Montfort University.
